About Sarah

So many baby friends!

I did not come to this work through my own birth or any experience with pregnancy and babies. In fact, I'm an only child and have a small family where young children are few and far between! I came to it through wanting to support a friend through her pregnancy when she felt as though she had none.  This deep need to support women through the amazing transition of birth followed me for years until I finally took my first doula training in November of 2013. From that point forward, my entire life has changed, thanks to the women and families I am called to support!

In June of 2016, I quit my full time job of managing a busy chiropractic and massage clinic, to be a full time doula and have not looked back! Supporting birthing people and families full time has also led me to creating positive changes in my own life and I feel so lucky to do what I do and witness the strength and power of birthing people!

I feel voracious in my desire to deeply understand birth and understand how I can support every birthing family, and have continued my training by becoming a Certified Lactation Counselor, a Certified Holistic Doula and Certified Holistic Hospital Doula through Whapio and The Matrona. Beyond these certifications, I am also certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and completed additional courses in Comforting Touch (massage), Acupressure for Pregnancy, Labor & Postpartum, The 4th Trimester, Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum, Advanced Doula Training with Penny Simkin, Tending the Postpartum Psyche with Whapio and The Matrona, and most recently Practical Birthing Wisdom with Whapio.

In the last five and a half years, I have supported families giving birth at home, hospital and in birthing centers, women having vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC) both in hospital and at home, single parents, twins, first time mothers, second and third time mothers! Women giving birth are amazing teachers and I continue to learn something new each time I sit with someone in labor.

Always seeking to be able to provide more for my clients and for birthing families, I have been teaching childbirth education with Manhattan Birth, with Tanya Wills, CNM, IBCLC for over four years and am also a Midwife Assistant for her homebirth practice, Manhattan Birth Midwifery.  I continue to learn so much alongside Tanya, so that I can provide complete care and evidence based information to my students and clients.

"Teaching the Comprehensive Childbirth Class has been one of the most rewarding additions to my birth work as I get to reach so many families with evidence based information (and a touch of humor) and watch them go on to have beautiful, empowering experiences."

I've managed natural health clinics since 2005, where I learned to passionately believe in the body’s innate abilities and I truly love empowering others to have the same faith in themselves. I know you can do this and there is nothing you can say to make me believe otherwise. It's the core of my work as a doula - a deep, unwavering believe in women and the process of birth, however it unfolds.  No matter how your baby comes out and what choices you make along the way, I want to make sure that the experience is yours and it is an empowering one.

"Our society bombards us with such negative images of birth, it has been such a blessing for me to be able to tell someone, 'I know you can do this.' and see them do something they never thought they could."

You can.

End of story.
